David Lemon - Master Bronze Sculptor - “Just a breath away from life.”

David Lemon - Sculptor of Americana

That is how Dave Lemon’s figurative sculptures are discribed.

Historically accurate to the last  bit of leather fringe and flying hoof, Lemon freezes history long gone into the immediate present. He says of his work, “I try to create something that looks like it’s going to walk right off the stand.”  He accomplishes his goal.

David Lemon has been fascinated with the inhabitants of the Old West since listening to his grandmother’s early recollections about her childhood in a log cabin with a sod roof, the mountain lions crossing it, causing the roof boards to creak & watching the Indians going on their hunting parties through the trees.  The stories told by his father and grandparents of there early days in Utah helped spark his constant drawing of Indians, cowboys & settlers that often drew repremands & complaints from Dave’s elementary school teachers.

A fumbled pottery class in his senior year of high school, introducted him to terra-cotta clay & his sculpting career was born, winning him three scholarships.  It took twelve years including a four year stint in the US Navy for Dave to exchange his sculpting “hobby “ for a serious career.

Since then his has produced a huge volume of work, won many awards, held numerous one man shows in the USA and as far away as Jakarta, Indonesia, been written up in major national publications and his work has appeared in several televisions programs.

Dave Lemon has been commissioned for several public works as well as a sculpture of Gary Cooper, to be cast in bronze as The Spirit of Montana Award, an award to be given every year as a “Life Time Achievement Award” at The Hatch Audio Visual Arts Festival of Bozeman, Montana.  He is also very proud of "Veteran's Legacy" a life size bronze he did for the Veterans Memorial located in his home town, Ennis, in southwest Montana.

David Lemon’s visionary depictions of the historic West honor and humanise the peoples and bring to our remembrance the creatures found in that land.
